The collection consists of Mr. Barrett's personal papers regarding his American literature collection. It consists chiefly of correspondence with dealers, receipted bills, and catalogs, but also contains correspondence with librarians and scholars regarding American authors and his collection, collection lists, lists of book donations to the University of Virginia and other institutions, stock transactions, appraisals, photostats of Barrett manuscripts, and some papers of R. F. Roberts of Seven Gables.
